2018 ETU Sprint Distance Triathlon Qualifier Nottingham Triathlon, 19th May

We all arrived the night before so we could set up at camp and go and reccie the course before the big day tomorrow. The water was calm, the bike course was all flat and the run had a little hill but other than that we could all tell the race was going to be hard and fast and we would all have to give it everything we had.

There was various heats throughout the day and an Edinburgh#3 athlete in ¾ of them. First off, at 8:00, was Cameron Turner. As for the swim being his hardest discipline he knew he had to put in some shift for the bike and run. He had a strong bike and run (despite getting cramp) but he managed to power through it getting an overall time of 01:09:26.

By the time Ailsa MacArthur, Gav Munn and Adrienne Turner were racing the temperature had reached to about 21 degrees which made it all the harder for the bike and run. Ailsa was out 5th in the swim giving her a strong head start, followed by Gav then Adrienne. The bike was fast and fierce and all three had strong times. By the time they got to transition 2 Gav was the first Edinburgh#3 back, then Ailsa, then Adrienne. When first out onto the run each athlete was faced with a short hill but once over the whole course is flat. The only water stop on the run was 3km in so the heat took over quite quickly but they all finished with good times, Ailsa Macarthur (01:12:11), Gav Munn (01:05:16) and Adrienne Turner (01:21:42).

In the last heat of the day we had Kev MacArthur and Colin Turner who were also racing in about 21 degree heat. Colin was first out the swim closely followed by Kev. Kev and Colin both raced quick on the bike but Kev managed to catch up with Colin on the last lap. They both headed into transition 2 close to each other and it was straight off onto the hot run. Colin picked up his pace on the run and finished with an overall time of (01:04:24) and Kev came in finishing at (01:08:33).

In the end Ailsa and Kev both qualified and will be competing in Glasgow 11th August at European Age Groups Sprint Distance. Good Luck to them both 🙂
