Fraser’s Triathlon success

Fraser Baggeley did a sprint tri last weekend. Below is his inspiring race report. I think it also means he has turned pro at 9!!

WK 30 - WED 6381

I did a triathlon in Grantown, and the youngest age was meant to be 12 but I am nine and coming to tri club made me confidant enough to do the triathlon. It was hard but with the training at E3 it made me able to go fast round the corners, make speed down the hill, and on the run take a little bit further of a stride than usual.

In the swim I was put in a fast heat, 15 lengths of a twenty metre pool it was quiet hard because I had try to swim quite fast to not get lapped by a women who was fast at swimming but I managed to pass the other women in the lane.

In T1 I over took several people and then jumped onto the bike. I passed an old man who needed some training at E3 (he was from fleet foot tri club). The bike was a 16 kilometre loop with a bit of a climb but as I had cycled it the day before I knew what to expect. My dad was escorting me so he was telling me things that tri club tell me. Dad only rode behind me so I didn’t get a draft.

When it came to the second transition I had a good dismount (thanks to the coaching from Andy and Mark at the bike session every four weeks at tri club)

I do like my running so I was pleased to get out onto the run. I knew I needed to go fast, my 5 kilometre p.b is 27 minutes, but today I got 22 minutes, and passed several people. At the end I had a sprint finish.

After the race there was a prize giving. I got a special mention for being the youngest person to do the whole race. They gave me some nice cookies and 20 pounds for winning my age group, so I was quite happy with myself and I was first in the 12 year olds. My time of 1hr 17 mins made me 93rd out of 147 finishers (I also beat my mum!). The camera man wanted to take photos of us.

I can’t wait for next season
